Apothecary Ideas for Potions« Back to List of Decorations

These awesome ideas are a great way to add that Potions look to any room! Great for a Deathly Hallows party, or for a Science teacher's classroom.

Materials:

Glass Jars
Bottles
Flasks
Mason Jars
Labels
Black Pens
dried herbs
mortar and pestle

Instructions:

Line kitchen counters, windowsills, bookcases, mantles, shelves, etc with potion ingredients. Fill glass jars, bottles, flasks, vases, mason jars, canisters, with strange looking contents and add labels with names of magical substances. Health food stores or organic markets that sell spices and foods in bulk are a fun place to look for ideas. Try craft shops or import stores for shaped jars and bottles.
Hang bunches of dried herbs, feathers, talons if you have them, strings of shells or sharks teeth. Decorative extras like a mortar and pestle, copper cups, and scales/weights are great accents and of course a cauldron.
The Lexicon has a list of ingredients mentioned in the books here: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/magic/potions-enc.html#Ingredients for ideas.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is also a good place for inspiration
Poppy seeds can be Beetle eyes.
Hard boiled eggs (or even a jar of pickled eggs) can be Runespoor Eggs or Troll eyeballs.
{see also Tanaqui's suggestions here: http://www.wla.lib.wi.us/yss/press/summer03.htm#potions Truly inspired!}
Display some jars in your refrigerator as a fun surprise for guests.
